Dona Paula Beach

Dona Paula Beach is a very popular beach of Goa. It is replete with all-encompassing romanticism. The beach remains crowded for most part of the year and has plenty of activities to indulge in. Dona Paula is just 7 kilometres away from the Panaji and its proximity to the capital has made it a very happening beach of Goa. Dona Paula Beach is cosily tucked in towards the southern part of the rocky headland. This area is the meeting point of the two major rivers Mandovi and the Zuari as they merge with the Arabian Sea. The beach has been named after Viceroy’s daughter Dona Paula de Menezes who is said to have committed suicide after jumping off the cliff at this point over a tiff she had with her family objecting to her love affair with a fisherman’s son. Then onwards, Dona Paula has been marked as a lover’s point and its name is synonymous with romanticism. This beach is thus a favourite haunt for couples in love, honeymoon couples, and is often referred to as lover’s paradise. The beach offers magnificent views of the Mormugao Harbor and the scenic charm gets enhanced by the presence of the line of casuarinas and graceful  palms.

From the top of the small hillock of Dona Paula Beach catch some mesmerizing view all around and relax on the benches meant for enjoying the sea breeze and the russet sunset. The enigma of the beach is associated with the love myth and the natural beauty of the surroundings.
